It’s easy to see why the Platinum Coast is so familiar, with the warm Caribbean waters, miles of golden sand, and a warm balmy breeze.
The calm, clear waters all along the West coast make it ideal for snorkelling. Animal Flower Caves are a hidden gem, and more details are in our other pages. Folkestone beach is much loved being a marine reserve with lots of underwater life, a small aquarium as well as picnic benches and facilities.
Batts Rock Beach, near Bridgetown, is well equipped with picnic benches and shower facilities. The backdrop of trees is perfect for a bit of shade, it’s a great beach for surfing if the conditions are right and keep a look out for the Green monkeys who live there.
Six Men’s Bay
A charming fishing village just North of Speightstown. Relax on the beach and watch fisherman bring in their catch. Or go diving and explore the wreck of the Pamir, which is located just offshore. You can sample local fish at the Friday and Saturday fish fry; popular with the locals it is a perfect place to experience the Caribbean way of life.
I would thoroughly recommend going on a catamaran boat cruise while you are in Barbados. Anyone who has done this and had a trip with amongst others, Jammin’ catamaran cruises had an unforgettable day.

Starting off from Bridgetown lots have loved snorkelling over wrecks full of marine life and got to swim with turtles, it's wonderful to be able to swim with these lovely creatures. Next you can cruise along the West coast, stopping off for lunch and a spot of sunbathing followed by more snorkelling. The boats have a slide at the back, enabling for easy and fun access into the water.

Visit Just Grillin’ in nearby Holetown for authentic no frills Caribbean cuisine, you’ll love it! If you are visiting in February, the Holetown Festival is full of vibrant celebrations with music and parades. Holetown has some interesting local shops and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Take a stroll along the boardwalk found on the sea front in the evening; it is a magical place to watch the sunset.
If you can prize yourself away from the beach you should take a trip to Harrison’s Cave, which is about 20 minutes inland from the Colony Club. This spectacular underground world is full of deep clear pools and beautiful crystallised limestone. The main cave is known as ‘the Great Hall’ and measures an impressive 50 feet in height. If you do pop down to Bridgetown, (30-40 mins by car from One Battaleys) it is worth it, not just as Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados. The city and its Garrison became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011. It is an interesting town to explore and has a port. Check out Broad Street if you like shopping. After exploring the city, you might need to relax, take a visit to nearby Carlisle Bay. This long sweeping crescent-shaped beach has small bars and restaurants dotted along the shoreline. There are also some great shipwrecks to dive and snorkel on just off shore, look out for turtles as well! Pebbles beach, a bit further around the bay is home to a dive centre and stand up paddle board school. The popular fish shack Cuzz can also be found here. The fish sandwiches or fish cutters as they are known are some of the tastiest in Barbados. The perfect beach snack along with a chilled local Banks beer is a must while you are here.
